ISP 5/6 Blue Group

ISP Blue Group students have been studying the narrative text type over the past 5 weeks. There has been a focus on developing reading strategies to support reading comprehension. Students need direct and explicit instruction to know when and how comprehension skills and strategies should be used.

Some of the reading strategies students have been learning are: analyzing plot, analyzing characters and inference. Students have also been developing their vocabulary knowledge through challenging word study activities and weekly vocabulary assessments.

ISP Students have demonstrated their comprehension of texts read in class by writing several character analysis paragraphs. Students read a passage and completed a graphic organizer (using inference skills) in order to plan their paragraphs. Students also wrote a personal narrative about a surprising event in their life.

In week 8 we will start a new unit on procedural text type. Students will read several essays teaching them how to do something (like have an adventure). Students will write an essay and present it to the class.
